Get Ready Quahog – We Are Coming!
Currently in an interesting form of Open Beta, we had to apply to receive a key to enter Family Guy Online. There was a wait, but eventually we got our hands on it. However, before we got to put our keys in our pockets and head down Spooner Street, we first needed to select and create our own character for the world of Family Guy Online.
We had to first select what type of character we would like to play. We had the opportunity to choose between Stewie, Peter, Meg and Chris, or Lois. Careful though, there is a warning when you hover above Stewie that anyone over 40 choosing this character class is a creep and is now being watched by the FBI. So, we decided to move on and check out the other ones, such as the Meg and Chris class. We think that the hormones and angst from puberty will be useful in a fight. However, if we wanted to play as a loving healing class, we could have chosen Lois. If we were really feeling like throwing our weight around, we could have been the Peter class which gives you the chance to use your weight to your advantage!
Of course, we did not actually play as the famed Peter or the devious Stewie, we got to create our own Quahogian instead. There is a nearly endless variety of combinations that you can put together using the various customizations when creating your character. Such things like your hair, nose, mouth, eyes and clothes are all customizable. You are not likely to run into anyone that looks just the way you do.
The Very First "MMLOL" Ever
On the homepage of Family Guy Online, it is proudly displayed that it is the very first MMLOL in the world. That is quite the claim. With the click of a button, or if you prefer - the turn of a key, we dive into the world of Family Guy Online. Already the loading screen is showing us that we will be encountering the typical Family Guy humor as the loading bar is Joe in his wheelchair...
Our adventure began on the doorstep of the Griffin household. Right in front of us is none other than Peter Griffin himself, waiting to greet us in the online world. Once we talked to him, we found out that we must complete various tasks for him if we wish to get further in Family Guy Online, so we got to work right away.
TV Series Right in Your Browser – Unity Makes It Possible
Immediately, the graphics of Family Guy Online caught our eye. It really looks exactly like the world we know and love from the famed television series. We moved our character around using the keyboard and chose what direction we wanted to go with our mouse, giving us a chance to see almost all of Spooner Street.
With our comic character, we travelled to every corner of the city to look at the finer details of the world around us and we most certainly were not disappointed. Especially because it was all right in our browser!
Action Downtown – Scratched Faces and Crying Men
Later on, we received a task to head downtown. There, we saw plenty local shops that are often seen in the television series, such as Peter’s favorite bar – The Drunken Clam. When we finally got to our destination, we got our first real, dangerous challenge. We have to fight our way through countless police in order to reach the quest giver and deliver our goods. It is a good thing that we found the co-op feature in Family Guy Online, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to do it!
When fighting all of these cops, we had two different choices to attack them – either scratching the living crap out of their face or hitting them right where it hurts the most. Such wonderfully brutal and fun attacks could only be found in a game based on the Family Guy series.
In another mission, we ran into the fatman himself – Peter Griffin. After trading blows, we use our master attack and unleash the beast on the series star… blood included. As a reward we received experience points and money, as well as small trinkets which can help bring our character back to life. We then left Peter alone to tend to his wounds and went about our day.
The second part of the preview will coming on Monday, May 7th. Make sure to check back then to find out more about Family Guy Online!
